
Emergency Landings Are Allowed On Nyepi Day
February 07, 2010 - Emergency flights are still permitted at the time when Ngurah Rai international airport in Bali is closed for 24 hours on the occasion of Balinese New Year or Nyepi Day on Tuesday, March 16, 2010.
Head of Bali Transportation, Information and Communications Agency I Made Santha stated that overflying, technical landings, and emergency landings including medical evacuation are still permitted. He said in a technical landing, the crew and passengers need to stay in Ngurah Rai airport's work area for as long as the Hindus are engaged in their celebration.
International flights with destinations and first departure from Ngurah Rai had been abolished for 24 hours as of Tuesday (March 16) at 4 am to 4 am the following day. Beside that, domestic flights with destinations and first departure from Ngurah Rai had been abolished.
However, transit flights are still permitted, but without passengers with Denpasar at final destination or departure from there. These flights are permitted only to carry passengers in transfer.
Ngurah Rai airport, seaports and all means of transportation would not be operating during those hours in observance of Nyepi Day.
